The Smartest Chickens In The Room

I haven't talked about my chickens lately. Mostly because they've become full grown and have settled into their life as city chickens. Not to mention: RIP Chicken Jane and Little One.
Anyway, the two silkies that are left, live in our backyard during the day and sleep in their plastic box at night. When we had cats, we would lock the chickens in a little pen in the far corner of the yard because the cats were stalky and known bird killers. Since the cats have been adopted, the chickens have the whole backyard to themselves.
When they're ready to come in, they come to the living room windows and wait for someone to go get them. A few nights ago, we had our back window open, so they helped themselves, flapping their way up the window, waiting to be escorted to their sleeping quarters.
Tonight, since no one was in the living room, we left the window open for them. Just before sunset we heard hysterical flapping and a thud. The girls rushed to the living room to see what had happened. And there were the chickens, nestled in their box, having flown in the window, jumped onto the back of the couch, crossed the living room, leaped up to the woodbox, and scaled the walls of their box. Clever chickens!
